The Hong Kong Productivity Council Announces Executive Director Appointment

The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) announced today (3 November) the appointment of Mr Wilson Fung Wing Yip as its Executive Director for a period of three years with effect from 27 December 2006.

The Chairman of the Council of HKPC, the Hon. Andrew Leung, said the Council was fully confident that Mr Fung would provide impetus and strong leadership in managing HKPC amidst challenges in Hong Kong's fast-changing economic environment as a result of a greater integration with the Mainland economy.

The role of HKPC is to provide integrated support to innovative and growth-oriented Hong Kong firms across the value chain. The main sectoral focus is on manufacturing, particularly in Hong Kong's foundation industries, and related service activities, while the main geographical focus should be Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta.

"We are most impressed by Mr Fung's well-proven track record on the public administration front, his wealth of management experience in strategic planning and resource allocation in the public sector as well as his solid leadership and strong motivation," Mr Leung said.

"These qualities are essential for fulfilling HKPC's mission of promoting productivity of Hong Kong enterprises. The Council are looking forward to working closely with Mr Fung," Mr Leung said.

Mr Fung joined the civil service in 1980s. In late 1990s, he participated in the planning of a number of major infrastructural projects including Cyberport and the Hong Kong Science Park. He worked as a deputy director leading the 20,000-strong Housing Authority from 2000 to 2002. Prior to his resignation from the civil service, Mr Fung was the Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs.
