HKPC and Shenzhen Government Jointly Establish SZ-HK Productivity Foundation to Foster Technology Collaboration

To foster technology collaboration between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Shenzhen Productivity Promotion Centre of the Shenzhen Municipal Government in October 2004 and jointly established the 'Shenzhen-Hong Kong Productivity Foundation' (SZ-HK Productivity Foundation) in 2005 as a collaboration platform. Presenting an update on the project today (12 June 2007), Mr Wilson Fung, Executive Director of HKPC, said the Foundation will become operational in October 2007.

Mr Fung said, "The SZ-HK Productivity Foundation sets a milestone in technology collaboration between Hong Kong and the Mainland. Dedicated to supporting industry in product and technology innovation, the project will support the development of Hong Kong enterprises operating in the Pearl River Delta (PRD)."

Located at the heart of the Shenzhen High-tech Industrial Park, the 2,100-square metre SZ-HK Productivity Foundation is in close proximity to a cluster of multi-national high-tech companies. It can also be reached conveniently through the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor.

Highlighting the strategic location of the SZ-HK Productivity Foundation, Mr Fung said, "Leveraging on its prime position, the Foundation will offer a platform for synergy building for technology companies in Hong Kong and the Mainland."

The SZ-HK Productivity Foundation will house six centres, providing support in environmental technology, electronics and automotive technology, software and digital entertainment, technology transfer, business management, intellectual property management and brand building. Its scope of services will include technology commercialization and business matching, product development and technology consultancy, standards and quality testing, training, business consultancy, as well as the promotion of Hong Kong's professional services.

In addition, the SZ-HK Productivity Foundation will organize a host of activities, including exhibitions, business-matching sessions, promotions of Hong Kong's professional services, thematic studies and conferences, as well as promote the application and commercialization of the R&D deliverables of Hong Kong's research institutions.
