International Conference Presents Updates on Quality Management

More than 200 business executives today (22 August 2007) attended the opening of "The 12th Hong Kong Quality Management Convention and 2nd Pan-Pearl River Delta Quality Forum" jointly organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), Hong Kong Quality Management Association (HKQMA), Shenzhen Association for Quality (SAQ), and Six Sigma Institute (SSI) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The event, scheduled from 22 to 24 August 2007, aims to provide the latest updates on quality management practices through presentation by more than 20 quality management experts from Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas, sharing their insight in value innovation, Six Sigma, performance excellence and quality service.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr Chen Bangzhu, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Subcommittee of Human Resources and Environment and President of China Association for Quality; Mr Ho Kwong-wai, JP, Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services of the HKSAR Government; and Mr Wilson Fung, Executive Director of HKPC.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Fung said, "As one of the pioneers in promoting the adoption of quality management systems in Hong Kong, HKPC has been active in introducing quality improvement strategies, such as the Quality Circle activities and 'Six Sigma' methodology, to both the private and public sectors."

"More recently, we have also collaborated with professional bodies in the Mainland to implement the Performance Excellence management model by participating in the assessment of the China Quality Award, Guangdong Quality Management Prize, and the Shenzhen Mayor Award," he said.

A highlight of the opening ceremony was the presentation of awards to the winners of the Hong Kong Quality Circle Award and the Six Sigma Award. Hong Kong and China Gas Co. Limited and Nokia (China) Investments Co., Limited were presented the grand awards of the two prizes respectively.
