Appointments to Hong Kong Productivity Council announced (Government Press Release)

The Government today (December 31) announced that the Chief Executive had re-appointed Mr Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, Chairman of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) for a six-month period from tomorrow (January 1).

"Although Mr Leung will have served as Chairman of the HKPC for six years by the end of this year, having regard to the current economic situation, as a special arrangement, we have asked Mr Leung to stay on for a further six months," a government spokesman said.

Mr Leung was first appointed Chairman of the HKPC in January 2003. “We believe this special arrangement will allow the HKPC to continue to benefit from Mr Leung’s long industry experience and able leadership, at a time when the industry, especially SMEs, is looking to HKPC for more professional advice and support.” the spokesman said.

At the same time, Dr Raymond Chan, Professor Lee Wing-bun, Professor Tuan Chyau and Dr Carrie Willis, are re-appointed as members of the HKPC for two years from January 1.

Dr Cliff Chan Chok-ki, Mr Jimmy Kwok Chun-wah and Dr Elizabeth Shing Shiu-ching, are appointed as members of the HKPC for two years from January 1.

The role of the HKPC is to provide integrated support to innovative and growth-oriented Hong Kong firms across the value chain. The main sectoral focus is on manufacturing, particularly in Hong Kong’s foundation industries, and related service activities; and its main geographical focus is Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. The HKPC provides its clients with a diverse range of support services in product development, consultancy, training and technology transfer.

The HKPC comprises a chairman, not more than 17 non-official members drawn from managerial, labour, academic and professional sectors, as well as not more than five public officers.
