Building Business with Good Corporate Governance Practices

To promote good corporate governance practices among local SMEs, The Hong Kong Institute of Directors (HKIoD) has commissioned the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) to launch a new 13-month programme in March 2008 with funding support by the SME Development Fund of the Trade and Industry Department of the HKSAR Government.

The Programme will include a series of seminars and workshops, a pilot programme for SMEs in five different industry sectors including manufacturing, trading, service, wholesale and retail and the production of the "SME Corporate Governance Toolkit – From Guidelines to Implementation".

Dr Kelvin Wong, Deputy Chairman of HKIoD and chairman of the Programme's organizing committee, said, "Corporate governance is important to the operation and the strategic development of companies. Good corporate governance practices help SMEs establish transparent business processes and prepare them for future expansion. This Programme will facilitate local SMEs to implement their corporate governance systems."

A seminar to introduce the latest trend in corporate governance among SMEs will be held on 4 March 2008 to kick off the Programme. Representatives of the Directors of the Year Awards winners of HKIoD as well as management and banking experts will share their successful corporate governance experience and strategies at the seminar.
