HKPC Supports Financial Secretary's Budgeting Philosophy

The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) fully supports the Financial Secretary's principles underpinning his 2008-09 Budget - the commitment to society, sustainability and pragmatism.

The Council in particular welcomes the initiatives mentioned in the Budget Speech to improve the environment through the provision of concessionary measures to encourage the use of environment-friendly machinery and equipment, and commercial vehicles. The new initiatives to promote the creative industries, develop human capital, and support research and development activities are also critical for the sustainable development of Hong Kong.

Commenting on the Budget Speech, HKPC Chairman, Mr Andrew Leung, said, "The Budget has outlined a wide spectrum of initiatives to drive the long-term development of Hong Kong, enhancing the competitiveness of local industry and businesses in the international market." Mr Leung believed that these initiatives would be warmly welcomed by the industries.
