Speed up EMC Compliance with New Facilities at HKPC

The local electronics industry is now better equipped to comply with the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements of major overseas markets with the enhanced facilities of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC)'s EMC Centre, recognised as the most comprehensive EMC laboratory in Hong Kong.

Mr Eddy Chan, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government, Dr Samson Tam, Deputy Chairman of HKPC, and Mr Wilson Fung, Executive Director of HKPC, today (31 March 2008) officiated at a ceremony marking the launch of the $2 million test facilities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Tam said, "With rising demands for EMC tests for products with advanced features and the need to comply with international EMC requirements, the Centre has recently upgraded its facilities to provide enhanced support to industry."

"With these facilities, we have significantly cut down the time of the most demanding EMC tests, enabling companies to further shorten their product development cycle," he continued. "We also serve a wider spectrum of products, from general electrical and electronic items to high precision wireless radio devices and automotive electronic components."

"HKPC's EMC Centre has contributed to the success of many local electronic and electrical products. With the support of the Government and industry, the Centre will stand as the trusted technical partner of local manufacturers in meeting EMC compliance," he said.

"Looking ahead, the EMC Centre will work with the Hong Kong Automotive Parts and Accessory Systems (APAS) R&D Centre to further upgrade our facilities to provide comprehensive EMC test services for auto parts and accessories," he added.

Established in 1997 with funding support from the former Industry and Technology Development Council of the Government, HKPC's EMC Centre is the first fully accredited EMC laboratory in Hong Kong under The Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (HOKLAS). In addition to manufacturers, the Centre also provides full pre-compliance testing services for certification bodies and test laboratories. Every year, it conducts over 2,000 product tests and offers related consultancy service.
