Excellent IP Management Means Business & Brings Awards to 12 Companies

The winning formula of the 12 companies recognized at the 3rd Innovation-Knowledge Enterprise Award Presentation Ceremony today (10 December 2009) is to incorporate Intellectual Property (IP) management into their business strategies, said Mr Joseph Poon, Acting Director (Technology Development) of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC).

Jointly organized by HKPC and the Guangdong Intellectual Property Office (GIPO), the Award Scheme was launched in 2004 to recognize the achievements of local and Mainland companies in IP management. The presentation ceremony was officiated by Ms Tao Kai-yuan, Director General of GIPO; Mr Stephen Selby, Director of Intellectual Property of the HKSAR Government, and Mr Joseph Poon.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Poon said, "It is encouraging to see that the winning companies have gone one step further from merely protecting their IP assets to proactively blending IP management into their core business strategies. With a comprehensive IP management system in place, they have effectively turned their IP into profitable products and services."

Mr Poon said HKPC has been a major partner of enterprises in enhancing their IP management capabilities. He said, "Building on the basis of this Award Scheme, HKPC is working with GIPO to establish an IP management model which will offer a reference for Hong Kong and Mainland enterprises. The preliminary model is now under fine-tuning, and will be launched shortly."

Following an assessment and audit that covers 'invention and idea', 'commercialization and industrialization', 'IP management system', as well as 'IP capitalization', seven companies were recognized for their excellence in overall IP management and named winners of the 'Innovation-Knowledge Enterprise Award'. The winning companies included Central Textiles (HK) Ltd, Chiaphua Industries Limited, Defond Electrical Industries Limited, Homeasy Enterprise Limited, Kwong Fei Expectation Mfg.
