3rd Hong Kong Mobile Film Production Contest Award Presentation Ceremony - Eight Local Films Awarded 11 Prizes

The 3rd Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) and Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), was successfully concluded with the award presentation of the Mobile Film Production Contest Award Presentation Ceremony today (25 March 2010). The event was held at the 14th Hong Kong FILMART.

Response to the Contest this year has been overwhelming with over 150 entries. After a vigorous judging process over the past two months, a total of 11 awards were announced today, with 8 winning productions. The “Grand Award” was presented by Ms. Rita Lau, JP, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Ken Fong, Chairman of WTIA, said, “With the popularization of smart mobile phones with multi-media functions, watching films through mobile data is fast becoming a habit for users. Also, with the local mobile television license due to be issued by the HKSAR Government later this year, the market demand for mobile films is expected to increase continuously. The Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival creates a platform for the local digital entertainment and creative industries to exchange ideas and promote their works, and helps nurture talent to further the development of mobile film and television.”

“To bring the Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival to the international arena, we have invited overseas mobile film partners to take part in the event this year, who promoted Hong Kong productions in their countries through the exchange of mobile films. To tie with the participation of Hong Kong in the ‘Expo 2010 Shanghai’, with the support of the HKSAR Government, we will organize the ‘Mainland China – Hong Kong Mobile Film Talent Exchange Forum’ and ‘Hong Kong Mobile Film Showcase’ in Shanghai in October. Some of the awardees of the Contest will also go to Shanghai and showcase their award-winning productions to Expo visitors as well as meet with film-making professionals there,” Mr. Fong added.

Funded by Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, the Hong Kong SAR Government, the 3rd Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival was launched in October 2009. Compromising the Mobile Film Production Contest, mobile film forum, technical workshop, seminars and road shows, the event aimed to enhance public awareness of mobile film as well as to promote the development of related industries.
