Celebrating Hong Kong Digital Creative Talent

The success of Hong Kong digital creative talent at the 11th DigiCon6 Awards, organized by Japanese broadcaster Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) Television, was being celebrated at a certificate presentation ceremony today (29 January 2010), organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), with funding support from the HKSAR Government’s CreateSmart Initiative.

Two Hong Kong-produced animations, “Time To Say Goodbye” by Radio Television Hong Kong / QiQiHar International Limited and “Such Is Life” by Emily Wong, won the Encouragement Awards out of over 2,470 entries from around Asia at the 2009 Awards held in Tokyo, the second consecutive year that Hong Kong digital creators were recognized. At the ceremony today, these winners were joined by creators of 11 other excellent local entries to share their moment of glory.

Officiating at the certification presentation ceremony, Mr Duncan Pescod, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), HKSAR Government, indicated that the government has been actively promoting the development of the local animation industry. Apart from providing fund support for the local organization of the DigiCon6 Awards, it has also been working with HKPC on an education kit to help secondary school students to learn about the world of animation. Other initiatives include holding an international animation camp at Cyberport and commissioning local companies to develop animation programmes.

At the ceremony, Mr Wilson Fung, Executive Director of HKPC, and Mr Izumi Ikawa, Division President of Digital Media of TBS Holdings, Inc., who specially flew in from Japan for the occasion, also signed a Memorandum of Understanding, sealing a long-term collaboration with HKPC continuing to be the Hong Kong organizer of the Awards for the next three years.

Other officiating guests included Mr Takafumi Yuki, International Alliance Officer of DigiCon6 Operation Office, TBS Holdings, Inc., and Mr Gabriel Pang, Chairman of Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association.

Video highlights of the 11th DigiCon6 Awards Presentation Ceremony in Tokyo held on 22 November 2009 and creative entries from Hong Kong were also shown at today’s ceremony.
