Win-win for Green Groups, Manufacturers and Banks

Four green groups in Hong Kong today (12 May 2010) were presented with donations raised through the Green Financing Scheme launched by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) with five major banks in 2008.

Presenting the donations to representatives from Friends of the Earth (HK), Green Power, The Conservancy Association and WWF-Hong Kong, Mr Wilson Fung, Executive Director of HKPC, said: “The Green Financing Scheme is a successful collaboration of HKPC, banks, manufacturers and green groups to improve the environment.”

“With HKPC experts providing technical assessments through this Scheme, many manufacturers have secured preferential loans from participating banks to kick-start their environmental projects. While for each loan confirmed, the participating banks also made a donation to the green groups to support their activities (Annex), creating a win-win situation on all fronts.”

The Green Financing Scheme was launched in January 2008 to support Hong Kong manufacturers in the Pearl River Delta region to implement environmental management projects to reduce emissions and enhance energy efficiency. Participating banks included Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, Dah Sing Bank Limited, Hang Seng Bank Limited, The Bank of East Asia Limited and The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited.
