Local Creative Talent Going Global With Inaugural Hong Kong International Mobile Film Awards

(Hong Kong, 7th September, 2010) Building on the success of previous years, the 4th Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival (HKMFF), jointly organized by the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), co-organized by Hong Kong Wireless Development Center and with the funding support of the CreateSmart Initiative of Create Hong Kong of the HKSAR Government, is set to become a global event with the staging of the inaugural Hong Kong International Mobile Film Awards (HKIMFA).

As event host, Hong Kong will invite nine countries and regions to nominate their outstanding mobile films to compete in the awards, while the local entries will be selected from the 4th Hong Kong Mobile Film Production Contest.

Mr Jerry Liu, Head of Create Hong Kong, was delighted to see the staging of more local and international competitions under the sponsorship of CSI to boost the flourishing mobile film sector in Hong Kong. He said these competitions would help nurture local creative talents and provide a platform for exchange of creativity.

Speaking at a HKIMFA-HKMFF briefing, Mr Ken Fong, Chairman of WTIA, said, “Through extensive collaboration with different mobile film festival partners in launching the HKIMFA, we are creating a global platform for filmmakers to exchange technical and creative ideas.  In addition, we aim to offer local filmmakers a unique opportunity to share their works with audience around the world, thus enhancing the international image of Hong Kong mobile films. “

Mr Yung Kai-tai, General Manager (IT Industry Development) of HKPC, said: “HKPC has been actively promoting the cross-over of IT and creative industries to further boost the development of Hong Kong’s creative sectors such as design, film and multi-media. HKIMFA will help to nurture more creative talent, enabling Hong Kong creations to shine on the international arena. Mobile films from 10 countries and regions from across five continents, including Hong Kong, Mainland China, France, Germany, Australia, Korea, Brazil, Morocco, Spain and Greece, will vie for the Awards. Each participating country and region will nominate 10 mobile films to compete for the grand honour. The Hong Kong nominees will be chosen from the entries of the 4th Hong Kong Mobile Film Production Contest.”

The award presentation ceremony will be held on 23rd March, 2011, during the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART).  Finalists, overseas organizers and media from the participating countries and regions will be present, and also join the concurrent international mobile film forum.

Local mobile film talent who wish to use this opportunity to step onto the international stage should note that the submission deadline for the 4th Hong Kong Mobile Film Production Contest will be 6th December, 2010.
