HKPC Helps Hong Kong Industries to 'Charge Up' for New Opportunities

With a fragile global economic recovery, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) will sustain its drive to support Hong Kong industries in charging up for future growth, says Mr Clement Chen, Chairman of HKPC.

Under the theme of “Charging Up”, the HKPC 2009/10 Annual Report, tabled today (10 November 2010) at the Legislative Council, reviewed the Council’s support to industry to rise up to the challenges of contracting overseas markets and soaring production costs in the Mainland. Mr Chen said, “Leveraging our technical expertise and our extensive industry networks, HKPC is committed to assisting our industries, not only in responding to immediate challenges but also in energizing them with new capabilities vital to sustainable business growth.”

Mr Chen said HKPC has stepped up its one-stop support platform TURN – an acronym for ‘Transform, Upgrade and Relocate for a New horizon’, to render a spectrum of services to manufacturers in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) in industrial upgrading and business transformation.

“We have collaborated with major municipal governments in the PRD to replicate the ‘TURN’ model throughout the region. To date, industrial upgrading programmes modeled on the TURN platform have been established in Dongguan, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhongshan, Huizhou and Shenzhen,” he said.

Mr Chen said, “We have also implemented new initiatives to help SMEs better manage their intellectual capital, deliver excellent services, comply with emerging standards on corporate social responsibility, and tap new business opportunities in domestic sales. All these efforts will propel our SMEs forward, helping them to keep in step with the ever-changing business environment.”  The CSRCARE Programme and a government-funded programme to support local SMEs in entering the Mainland domestic market are examples of such initiatives.
