HK Information Security Watchdog Re-elected to Head Asia Pacific Organizations

Local information security watchdog, the Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT) has again won the support of fellow organizations from the region and was re-elected as the Chair of the Asia-Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Phuket, Thailand, recently.

APCERT (www.apcert.org) comprises of 25 leading and national Computer Security and Incident Response Teams (CSIRT) from 17 economies of the Asia Pacific region. Managed by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), HKCERT was established in 2001 with funding from the HKSAR Government and was also a founding member of APCERT.

“HKCERT is honoured to be given the opportunity again to serve as the Chair of APCERT. This is indeed a recognition of our achievements, technical competence and leadership in the region in safeguarding information security over the past year by our peers,” Mr K T Yung, Project Director of HKCERT, and General Manager (IT Industry Development) of HKPC, said.

“Re-elected as Chair of APCERT, HKCERT will continue to further expand its network and enhance cooperation with international information security organizations, raising the profile of Hong Kong as a guardian of cyber security in the international arena,” he added.

As the Chair of APCERT, HKCERT will continue to represent the organization to participate in various international events such as the APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group meeting and coordinating with other regional CERT organizations and Asia-Pacific organizations. It will also lead the work of the Steering Committee of APCERT; and work with the Committee to collaborate with the regional CERT teams to tackle cyber security incidents and promote information sharing.
