APAS and HKPC Unveil R&D Results in Automotive Safety and Environmental Systems

The competitiveness of the local auto parts industry is further sharpened with the successful development of an integrated Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and an energy-efficient LED headlamp.

The first of their kinds being designed by R&D teams from Hong Kong and the Mainland, these systems were jointly developed by the Hong Kong Automotive Parts and Accessory Systems R&D Centre (APAS) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) with funding from the Innovation and Technology Fund of the HKSAR Government.

Introducing these R&D results, Mr Joseph Poon, Director (Technology Development) of HKPC, said, “With unique features, these two systems can enhance the value, safety and reliability of the vehicles. The integrated proactive safe driving system offers drivers holistic alerts on lane change, frontal collision and blind spot monitoring. Using road data from Hong Kong and the Mainland, the localised technology is expected to have promising business potential in both markets. As for the LED headlamp, it is energy efficient and lasts five to 10 times longer than traditional headlamps.”

Dr Yang Ying, CEO of APAS, said, “When these technologies are commercialized, local auto parts industry would be on a par with other competitors in developing new auto parts products, enabling them to tap opportunities in the markets of medium and high-end models and long-distance transportation vehicles on the Mainland.”
