Showcasing Creative Works to Inspire Cross Industry Collaboration in Commercial Applications

To seize the opportunities created by the surge in commercial applications of characters from Hong Kong animations and graphic creations, over 60 local creative talents will display the best of their works for potential business partnerships at the Cross Industry Matching Showcase to be held from 10 to 12 March 2011.

Jointly launched by the Innovative Entrepreneur Association (IEA) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), the three-day event comprises an exhibition featuring locally produced character and graphic creations, exchange forums on cross industry collaboration, and on-site consultation service on intellectual property management.

Introducing the Showcase today (1 March 2011), Dr Raymond Choy, President of IEA, said, “Through the Showcase we aim to provide a platform for business synergies between local character and graphic creators and entrepreneurs to achieve win-win for all.”

Mr Edmund Sung, Director (Business Consulting) of HKPC, said, “With the value added to the GDP reaching over HK$ 60 billion each year, the creative industries contribute to 4% of Hong Kong’s GDP. Naturally drawn to TV, movies and web-based platforms, the sector can help SMEs promote their products and brand image quickly. Cross-industry partnership also enables the sector to explore licensing opportunities.”

The Showcase is a highlight of a project under the theme of “Showcasing Creative Works to Inspire Cross Industry Matching in Commercial Applications” funded by the CreateSmart Initiative of Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of HKSAR Government.

Mr Jerry Liu, Head of CreateHK, said, “CreateHK has been supporting creative industries to expand their local market size. The Showcase provides a platform for the industry practitioners to understand the demand for creativity of SMEs in other sectors. We encourage both parties to make good use of this to explore business opportunities.”

Apart from the Showcase, the project also includes the publication of a Cross Industry Mix-and-Match Roadmap to share the success experience in such collaboration.
