HKPC Highlights Business Practices in Sustainable Development in New Education Resource Library

To introduce sustainable development technologies and practices to the younger generation in support of the new senior secondary curriculum on liberal studies, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) launched an online education resource library (www.suslibrary.org) based on the experience of local businesses.

Funded by the Sustainable Development Fund of the HKSAR Government, the portal was unveiled by Mr Joseph Poon, Director (Technology Development) of HKPC; Professor Nora Tam, Member of the Council for Sustainable Development; and Mr James Yiu, Chief Curriculum Development Officer, Liberal Studies Section, Education Bureau on 24 November 2012.

Introducing the portal, Mr Poon said, “Over the years, HKPC has been actively promoting green productivity. Apart from technology development and promotion, we have also launched various large-scale environmental and sustainable development projects to help the business sector adopt cleaner production and implement low-carbon management for operation enhancement.”

“Through these initiatives, HKPC has built up a wealth of expert knowledge and success cases. By sharing these resources with the younger generation through the online education resource library, we hope that local students will embrace the concept of sustainable development when thinking about the environment, as well as economic and social development,” he continued.

Designed by HKPC’s information technology experts, incorporating the multi-disciplinary knowledge of its professional consultants, the portal offers five facets of sustainable development. These include renewable energy, carbon reduction and audit, green information and communication technologies, nanotechnologies and corporate social responsibility.

Teaching materials come in the format of presentation files, case studies, video clips, suggested teaching activities, a question bank, reference materials (websites/books), an e-learning game and discussion forum. Company visits for secondary students will also be arranged as part of the project.
