HKPC and State Research Institute to Establish Light Metal Technology Centre in Hong Kong

To foster technology collaboration and support Hong Kong industry to enter the high value-adding light metal sector, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today (10 December 2012) announces to join hands with the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys (CCMg) to set up the Engineering Research Center for Light Metals in Hong Kong. Both parties signed a collaboration agreement today.

At the signing ceremony, Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC, said, “Light metal alloys can meet the call for carbon reduction and the demand for light-weight consumer electronic products. They are widely used in various industries, including aviation, automotive, motorcycle and information technology. A major boost to emerging industries, light metal technologies also facilitate traditional industries in business upgrading into high value-adding sectors.”

“Leveraging CCMg’s R&D strengths and HKPC’s experience in industrial application of light metal technologies, the new centre will support both the Mainland and Hong Kong industries in the application of R&D results for enhanced competitiveness,” she added.

Through the new centre, HKPC and CCMg will collaborate in the areas of light metal technology development and exchange, promotion of research results, technology transfer and commercialization, as well as technical support services. The closer cooperation between research institutions and industries on both sides will enhance the overall competitiveness of the light metal industries in Hong Kong and the Mainland.
