HK-INC Explores Opportunities and Challenges in Environmental Management under 12th Five-Year Plan

With promoting energy efficiency and a low carbon economy among the major policy foci of the National 12th Five-Year Plan, the “Hong Kong Industry Network Clusters” (HK-INC) of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) convened today (5 July 2012) to explore the challenges and opportunities for Hong Kong industries in the Mainland market.

Mr Clement Chen, Chairman of HKPC, said, “The 12th Five-Year Plan has already laid out clear targets on energy conservation and emission reduction targets, but Guangdong aims even higher. Businesses must re-position, adopt low-carbon operations, in line with the development of the community. Accompanying this trend will be a hike in demand for energy efficient and emission reduction technologies, as well as energy management and related support. The local environmental industry is urged to seize this opportunity to tap the Mainland market.”

“Through this meeting, HKPC aims to gauge the views of industry on the strategies to support Hong Kong companies in the Mainland to ride out the challenges and tap the opportunities,” he added.

Held regularly, the theme-based HK-INC aims to gauge the views of industry on issues of relevance to their development. Previous meetings on domestic sales, Guangzhou-Hong Kong cooperation, information security, business sustainability and SME support, as well as on industry sectors including creative, watch, information and communication technology, critical components, and toys were convened with participants from the Government, trade and industry organizations, business and SME associations. Comments of the industry will be communicated to relevant parties.
