Local Digital Creativity Saluted at 14th TBS DigiCon6 Awards Hong Kong Certificate Presentation Ceremony

The achievements of Hong Kong digital creative talent at the “14th TBS DigiCon6 Awards” were commended at a certificate presentation ceremony today (1 February 2013). The Hong Kong area competition was organized by the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association (HKDEA) and implemented by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC).

TBS DigiCon6 Awards is organized annually by the Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) Television, which announced the grand award winners for the 2012 edition in Japan in last November. Ten countries and regions, including Hong Kong, were invited to submit their best animations to compete for the grand award.

“Life Goes On”, an animation film produced by Radio Television Hong Kong with Simage Animation and Media Limited, won the first prize of the Hong Kong region in the competition. “Level Up” produced by Radio Television Hong Kong with Vivid Multi-media Production, and “Accident” by Cheng Chi-Hong, Li Yui-Hon and Szeto Wing-Yin came second and third respectively. At the ceremony today, they were joined by the creators of 10 other excellent local entries to receive their prizes (Annex).

The Hong Kong section of the 14th TBS DigiCon6 Awards drew enthusiastic response with over 100 entries. A judging panel comprising major industry leaders selected the local winners, with the top five of them proceeding to compete for the grand award in Japan.

Since 2009, Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the HKSAR Government has been sponsoring the organization of the Awards in Hong Kong and related activities. These include a delegation of the local winners to Japan to attend the Awards Presentation Ceremony and company visit, as well as to organise experience sharing seminars in Hong Kong by top Japanese animators.

Officiating at today’s ceremony are Mr Gabriel Pang, Chairman of HKDEA, Miss Cheng Wai-fung, Assistant Head of CreateHK; Mr Izumi Ikawa, Executive Secretary General, and Mr Takafumi Yuki, International Alliance Officer of TBS DigiCon6 Headquarters, Tokyo TBS Television, Inc.; Mr Inoue Koichi, General Manager of Cultural Promotion Section, Sunrise Inc.; veteran Japanese animation director Mr Ryosuke Takahashi; and Mr Fritz Chiu, Principal Consultant (IT Industry Development) of HKPC.
