168 Companies and Organizations All Smiles with ‘Happiness-at-work Label’

168 Hong Kong companies and organizations took home the ‘Happiness-at-work Label’ today (5 July 2013) with their commitment to create a delightful working environment and raise the happiness-at-work level for their staff.

They are the participants of the ‘Happiness-at-work Promotional Scheme’ launched by the Promoting Happiness Index Foundation (the Foundation) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) in January 2013. To date, 152 companies and 16 organizations applied for the ‘Happy Company’ and ‘Happy Organization’ labels respectively. The label presentation ceremony today was officiated by Mr John Tsang, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR. Other officiating guests include the Foundation’s President, Dr Edward Chan; Chairman, Dr Dennis Ng; Vice-chairman Prof. Roy Chung and Mr Irons Sze; HKPC Executive Director, Mrs Agnes Mak; and the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer (Honorary), Dr Helen Chan.

Mrs Mak said, “When facing fierce market competitions, organizations can strengthen their resilience through building a healthy and happy working environment to promote positive mindset among workers, trigger innovative ideas and improve customer service. Through this Scheme, HKPC aims to inspire local businesses to integrate the ‘happy workplace’ concept into management practices, and promote work-life balance.”

Successful applicants of the ‘Happiness-at-work Label’ have to implement measures or activities in at least two out of the four areas that affect ‘Happiness-at-work’. These include ‘Corporate Love’, ‘Corporate Insight’, ‘Corporate Fortitude’ and ‘Corporate Engagement’.

Representatives of the ‘Happy Company’ category - Starbucks Coffee Hong Kong and Bright Future Pharmaceutical Laboratories Limited, also shared their successful experience in building a happy workplace after the ceremony.

The deadline of application of the ‘Happiness-at-work Promotional Scheme’ is 31 August 2013.
