‘The 4th Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program’Encourages participation of social enterprises and young businesses

The Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program (Program), jointly organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) for four consecutive years, is extending its scope this year to encourage social enterprises and young businesses in Hong Kong to adopt corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices.

Mr Matthew Cheung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the HKSAR Government, officiated at the launching ceremony of the 4th year of the Program today (17 June 2013), accompanied by Mr Clement Chen, Chairman of HKPC; Dr Joseph Lee, Chairman of CPCE; and Ms Zhu Yanlai, Deputy Chief Executive of Bank of China (Hong Kong).

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chen said, “Like other citizens in the society, the business sector has the duty to actively facilitate social justice. Such obligation is the core value that we aim to promote to the businesses through the Program. This year, we are extending the Program to include social enterprises so as to encourage more collaboration between social enterprises and local businesses.”

Besides creating a new category ‘Social Enterprises’ to commend the efforts of local social enterprises, a new award, ‘Corporate Citizenship Young Power’, is also introduced to encourage businesses with no more than five years of history to adopt good CSR practices.

Other activities under the Program include the ‘Volunteer Work Photo Competition’, seminars and workshops, and the ‘Best Corporate Citizenship Proposal Competition’ for secondary students in Hong Kong.

To share the experience of the successful implementation of CSR initiatives, HKPC organized a seminar featuring the winners of the ‘The 3rd Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Award’ after the ceremony.
