Software & Creative Industries Exhibition Opens New Business Platform for ICT Sectors

To promote a wider application of software and provide a platform for cross-sector collaboration, the “Software and Creative Industries Exhibition 2013” opens today (23 August 2013) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Jointly organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the Chamber of Hong Kong Computer Industry (CHKCI), the four-day Exhibition features 70 exhibitors, displaying the latest innovative business software; cloud, mobile and social media; and mobile entertainment solutions targeting businesses of various trades.

The opening ceremony today was officiated by Mr Daniel Lai, Government Chief Information Officer of the HKSAR; Mr Peter Cheung, Director of Intellectual Property of the HKSAR; Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC; Mr Rambo Yu, Chairman of CHKCI and Mr Walter Yeung, Chairman of Organizing Committee of the Exhibition.

Speaking at the opening, Mr Yeung said, “With the value added to GDP reaching $32.7 billion in 2011, the software, computer games and interactive media sector is playing an important role to the Hong Kong economy. Through this Exhibition, we aim to facilitate more business synergies between the local software industry and other domains of the creative industries such as films, animation and publishing.”

Mrs Mak said, “New business opportunities are blossoming as mobile communications, social media, cloud computing, information security and other cross-media industries have growing demands for software applications. Displaying an array of innovative technologies and services, this event will offer a platform for cross-over collaboration among local SMEs in software, and creative industries, and other businesses.”

The event is a new edition of the “Software Exhibition”, last held in 2003 by HKPC. This Exhibition also features free seminars on the latest technologies, software products and new applications in various industry sectors, as well as a thematic conference.
