Twenty-Seven Companies and Corporate Volunteer Teams Recognized for CSR Excellence in “The 3rd Hong Kong Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Awards”

Twenty-seven companies and corporate volunteer teams with outstanding achievements in the implementation and promotion of corporate social responsibility (CSR) were recognized at The 3rd Hong Kong Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Awards Presentation Ceremony today (30 January 2013) (annex).

The Awards presentation ceremony is a highlight of “The 3rd Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program” organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), co-organized by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE), and sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong).

Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR Government, was the Guest-of-Honour at the ceremony. Other officiating guests included Mr Clement Chen, Chairman of HKPC; Ms Melissa Pang, Convenor of the Research, Development and Community Participation Sub-committee of CPCE; and Ms Zhu Yanlai, Assistant Chief Executive of Bank of China (Hong Kong).

There are three categories of Awards, namely ‘Enterprise’, ‘SME’, and ‘Volunteer Team’; each with gold, silver, bronze and merit awards. Winners of the Gold Award in the respective categories are Yip's Chemical Holdings Limited, 4M Industrial Development Limited, and NWS Volunteer Alliance.

Mr Chen said, “CSR is more than community activities. It can build up the competitiveness of a business, from brand enhancement to raising customer loyalty and staff morale, to reducing operational risks and costs; ultimately achieving win-wins for both enterprises and society.”

“For effective implementation, businesses must set up their CSR management frameworks to systematically promote and review their social responsibility works. These activities should also integrate with their business strategies. As such, HKPC has recently developed the ‘iCSR’ reporting system to automatically collect, analyze and integrate CSR data, facilitating enterprisers to monitor and manage their CSR performance,” he added.

At the ceremony, 37 companies received the “Corporate Citizenship Logo” for their notable CSR performance. Winners of the “Best Corporate Citizenship Proposal Competition” and “Corporate Citizenship Photo Competition” were also announced.
