Over 200 Companies and Organizations Pledge for 'Happiness-at-work'

The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the Promoting Happiness Index Foundation (the Foundation) jointly launched the “Happiness-at-work Promotional Scheme” for the second consecutive year, aiming to foster a happy workplace culture. Over 200 companies and organizations were granted the ‘Happiness-at-work Label’ for their commitment to the cause and raise the happiness-at-work level for their staff.

To date, 202 companies and 18 organizations applied for the ‘Happy Company’ and ‘Happy Organisation’ labels respectively this year. The label presentation ceremony today (13 June 2014) was officiated by Mr Gregory So, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government, accompanied by Dr Edward Chan, President; Dr Dennis Ng, Chairman; Prof Roy Chung, Mr Irons Sze and Mr Johnny Yeung, Vice Chairman of the Foundation; and Mr Clement Chen, Chairman; and Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Chen said, “It is encouraging to see that a growing number of Happy Companies and Happy Organisations participated in the 2nd ‘Happiness-at-work Promotional Scheme’. We hope more companies will be inspired to incorporate the ‘happy workplace’ concept into their management practices and nurture a caring corporate culture. Being a Happy Organisation, HKPC also launches various initiatives to create a relaxing work atmosphere and strengthen staff communications.”

Successful applicants of the ‘Happiness-at-work Label’ have to implement measures or activities in at least two areas among ‘Corporate Love’, ‘Corporate Insight’, ‘Corporate Fortitude’ and ‘Corporate Engagement’ in the past year.

Following the ceremony, there was a sharing session from Wharf Estates Limited and Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited, both from the ‘Happy Company’ category, in building a joyous workplace.

To encourage ‘Happy Companies/Organisations’ and their staff to share happy moments at the workplace, a photo and video competition featuring the ‘Company/Organization’ and ‘Staff’ categories is newly introduced to the Scheme this year. Winning organizations and individuals were awarded at the ceremony today.

The ‘Happiness-at-work Promotional Scheme 2014’ is open for application until 31 August 2014.
