‘The 5th Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program’ Business & Social Enterprises Collaborate in CSR Drive

‘The 5th Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program’, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong), will introduce new awards to recognize enterprises for their continuous effort in adopting corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices. This is in addition to the Program’s aim to strengthen collaboration between businesses and social enterprises.

Ms Florence Hui, Acting Secretary for Home Affairs of the HKSAR Government, officiated at the launching ceremony of the Program today (23 May 2014), accompanied by Mr Clement Chen, Chairman of HKPC; Mr Henry Lim, Member of CPCE; and Mr Kai Chi On, General Manager of Corporate Services Department of Bank of China (Hong Kong) and Director of BOCHK Charitable Foundation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chen said, “In the past four years, the Program has recognized 140 companies, corporate volunteer teams and social enterprises. These outstanding corporate citizens have two elements of success - the integration of CSR into their core competencies and business; and building long-term partnership with social service organizations. In line with the Government’s policy on social innovation, through this Program, we hope to provide an exchange platform for business and social enterprises to collaborate and to create social benefits through business activities.”

Under the ‘Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Award Scheme’, a new award logo - ‘Corporate Citizenship Volunteer Team’ is introduced to encourage organizations to engage in volunteer work that serves social needs. Also, the ‘Corporate Citizenship Continuous Advancement Award’, aiming to encourage enterprises to strive for continuous improvement in CSR performance, is added to commend enterprises and SMEs which were awarded by the Scheme for at least three years.

‘The 5th Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program’ also includes a newly introduced ‘Inclusion Everywhere Video Competition’ for secondary students and the public, the ‘Corporate Citizenship Volunteer Activities’ and a series of seminars and workshops.

Following the ceremony, there was a panel discussion on cross-sector collaboration between businesses and social enterprises, and a seminar on CSR best practices featuring the winners of ‘The 4th Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Award’.
