Forty companies, corporate volunteer teams and social enterprises with outstanding achievements in implementing and promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR) were recognized at “The 4th Hong Kong Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Awards Presentation Ceremony” today (21 January 2014) (annex).

The awards presentation ceremony is a highlight of “The 4th Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program” organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), co-organized by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE), and sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong).

Miss Annie Tam, Permanent Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the HKSAR Government, was the Guest-of-Honour at the ceremony. Other officiating guests included Mr Victor Ng, Deputy Chairman of HKPC; Ms Melissa Pang, Convenor of the Research, Development and Community Participation Sub-committee of CPCE; and Ms Zhu Yanlai, Deputy Chief Executive of Bank of China (Hong Kong).

This year, the Awards features four categories, namely ‘Enterprise’, ‘SME’, ‘Volunteer Team’ and the newly-added ‘Social Enterprise’; each with gold, silver, bronze and merit awards. Winners of the Gold Award are: ‘Enterprise’ - Sino Group of Hotels; ‘SME’ - Baby-Kingdom; ‘Volunteer Team’ - NWS Volunteer Alliance, The Property Management Department of Henderson Land Group–Team of Care; and ‘Social Enterprise’ - Hong Kong Housing Society.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Ng said, “Many of this year’s winners have broken new grounds on implementing social responsibility through working in partnership with social enterprises. They engaged in the service development of social enterprises, enhanced their business skills, or even invested on the setting up and running of social enterprises. Through this Program, we hope to continue to promote more partnership and create more economic and social development opportunities for the community. HKPC’s technology and management consultants are ready to support further collaboration.”

At the ceremony, 77 companies also received the “Corporate Citizenship Logo” for their notable CSR performance, and 6 of them with less than five years of history were recognized as “Corporate Citizenship Young Power” for their active participation in CSR. Prizes were also presented to winners of the “Best Corporate Citizenship Proposal Competition” and “Corporate Citizenship Photo Competition”.
