55 Companies, Corporate Volunteer Teams and Social Enterprises recognized at “The 6th Hong Kong Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Awards”

Fifty-five companies, corporate volunteer teams and social enterprises with outstanding achievements in implementing and promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR) were recognized at “The 6th Hong Kong Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Awards Presentation Ceremony” today (15 December 2015) (annex).

The awards presentation ceremony is a highlight of “The 6th Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program” organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), co-organized by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE), and sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) (BOCHK).

Mr Matthew Cheung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the HKSAR Government, was the Guest-of-Honour at the ceremony. Other officiating guests included Mr Stanley Lau, Chairman of HKPC; Ms Melissa Kaye Pang, Chairman of CPCE; Mr Stephen Chan, General Manager of Institutional Business Department of BOCHK, and Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC.

The Awards include four categories, namely, ‘Enterprise’, ‘SME’, ‘Volunteer Team’ and ‘Social Enterprise’; each with gold, silver, bronze and merit awards. Winners of the Gold Award are: ‘Enterprise’ - Pfizer Corporation Hong Kong Limited; ‘SME’ - Ultra Active Technology Limited; ‘Volunteer Team’ - NWS Volunteer Alliance, and ‘Social Enterprise’ - TWGHs iBakery.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Lau said, “CSR is not only for large enterprises. Being more flexible and quicker in decision making, SMEs can more easily turn CSR into their competitive advantage. Through their CSR initiatives, SMEs can save resources, retain talent, and raise their corporate image, effectively responding to business challenges. Over the past six years, the ‘Hong Kong Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Awards’ program successfully attracted over 700 enterprises, with more than 4,500 participants. In addition to raising public awareness of CSR, it is encouraging to see that more and more enterprises have put their expertise into addressing social issues.”

At the ceremony, 135 companies received the “Corporate Citizenship Logo” for their notable CSR performance, among which 15 companies with less than five years of history were also recognized as “Corporate Citizenship Young Power” for their active participation in CSR initiatives. Meanwhile, prizes were also presented to winners of the two newly added awards - “The Most Touching CSR Project” and “The Best Volunteer Proposal Competition”. The former commends outstanding and effective CSR projects; while the latter aims to extend the scope and encourage creativity of volunteering works, promoting synergy between the winning enterprises and different organizations in society.
