APAS R&D Centre Showcases Green Transport Technologies

The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) puts forth a series of recommendations to boost local adoption of electric vehicles (EV), and continues to develop EV and charging technologies to support the growth of related industry in Hong Kong through its Hong Kong Automotive Parts and Accessory Systems (APAS) R&D Centre, says Dr Clement Chen, Chairman of HKPC.

Addressing the inaugural “APAS R&D Centre Showcase 2015 – Latest Market and Technology Trends of Auto Industry” today (22 April 2015), Dr Chen said, “HKPC has earlier compiled an Industry Study on EV Adoption in Hong Kong, by gauging the views of the industry and stakeholders, and benchmarking overseas experiences in promoting adoption. We have identified 13 recommendations, spanning from a bigger role for the Government in promoting adoption, to increasing EV charging infrastructures and human capital development, to facilitate a wider EV adoption.”

“Meanwhile, APAS R&D Centre has also geared up development in new technologies to assist the industry to tap business opportunities in the green transport market. These include various critical EV technologies and charging facilities. Its pure electric bus (ebus) project is taking shape, with the ebus set for road testing in Hong Kong this year,” he added.

Hosted by APAS R&D Centre, the Showcase was opened today by Miss Janet Wong, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government. It comprised a seminar with presentations from EV and auto parts suppliers, local bus operator, Mainland academic and technical experts from HKPC and APAS R&D Centre, as well as an exhibition of APAS R&D Centre’s R&D results, including EV battery management system, vehicle safety and on-board infotainment system.
