Fifty-three companies, corporate volunteer teams and social enterprises with outstanding achievements in implementing and promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR) were recognized at “The 7th Hong Kong Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Awards Presentation Ceremony” today (15 December 2016) (annex).

The awards presentation ceremony is a highlight of “The 7th Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program” organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), co-organized by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE), and sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) (BOCHK).

Mr Matthew Cheung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the HKSAR Government, officiated at the ceremony, accompanied by Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC; Ms Melissa Kaye Pang, Chairman of CPCE; and Mr Stephen Chan, General Manager of Institutional Business Department of BOCHK.

The Awards feature four categories, namely ‘Enterprise’, ‘SME’, ‘Volunteer Team’ and ‘Social Enterprise’; each with gold, silver, bronze and merit awards. Winners of the Gold Award are: ‘Enterprise’ - The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited; ‘SME’ - Baby-Kingdom.com Limited; ‘Volunteer Team’ - Towngas Volunteer Service Team, and ‘Social Enterprise’ - TWGHs iBakery.

Addressing the ceremony, Mrs Mak said, “Now in its seventh year, ‘The Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program’ has lifted the awareness of corporate social responsibility in the community and among enterprises. In addition to this Program, HKPC has launched the ‘Social Enterprise Executive Development (SEED) Experimental Program’ in 2016 with sponsorship from the Home Affairs Bureau, aiming to foster synergy between social enterprises and the commercial sector. Under the SEED Program, senior management from businesses will assist social enterprises to improve operation, in turn these executives can also broaden their horizon and get insights into new business areas.”

At the ceremony, 183 companies received the “Corporate Citizenship Logo” for their notable CSR performance and volunteering work, among which 13 companies that have participated in the Program for at least five consecutive years were granted the ‘Corporate Citizenship 5+ Logo’. Meanwhile, prizes were also presented to winners of the newly added award ‘CSR Pioneer Scheme’. Through company visits and various activities, the scheme aims to nurture students into responsible corporate citizens in order to implement corporate citizenship in their workplace in the future.
