HKPC and Smart Charge Join Forces to Charge up EV Adoption in Hong Kong

Hong Kong electric vehicle (EV) users will have easier access to advanced EV charging technologies with the collaboration between the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and local EV charging service provider Smart Charge (HK) Limited, a joint venture by HKT Limited (HKT) and CLP Holdings Limited.

Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC, said, “Over the years, HKPC and its Automotive Parts and Accessory Systems (APAS) R&D Centre have been promoting EV adoption in Hong Kong through the research and development of new charging solutions, as well as technology transfer and commercialization of our proprietary technologies to local manufacturers. For local EV users, the collaboration with Smart Charge will offer them more access to these HKPC and APAS R&D Centre-developed technologies, meeting their ever-increasing demand for EV charging solutions.”

Under the arrangement, HKPC and Smart Charge will collaborate on the design, development, operation, maintenance and promotion of EV charging solutions leveraging HKPC’s technical competence and experience. As Smart Charge’s technical partner, HKPC will assess and advise on EV charging technologies for the projects of Smart Charge to facilitate its adoption.

Mr Ringo Ng, Managing Director of HKT’s Consumer Group and Managing Director of Smart Charge, said, “The collaboration with HKPC will further enhance Smart Charge’s EV charging solutions to meet increasing market demand. With the deployment of HKPC and APAS R&D Centre’s EV charging technologies, Smart Charge is offering customized EV charging solutions to tackle the challenges of limited electricity capacity, ‘islanded’ parking spaces (where there are no adjacent walls for mounting chargers) and outdoor environment for end-users and commercial entities.”
