HKPC and Swinburne University Jointly Offer Offshore PhD Programme to Groom R&D Talents for HKPC

The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the Swinburne University of Technology of Australia will collaborate to groom a new generation of R&D professionals for HKPC to facilitate the re-industrialization of Hong Kong, an initiative first introduced in the 2016 Policy Address to attract high value-added industries to Hong Kong while to encourage traditional labour-intensive industry to migrate towards smart production.

Recently, the two parties signed a strategic research collaborative agreement, under which HKPC and Swinburne will offer an offshore Doctor of Philosophy Programme (PhD Programme) in Hong Kong. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC; and signed by Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC and Professor Aleksandar Subic, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) of Swinburne University of Technology.

Mrs Agnes Mak said, “Swinburne is a leading university in science, technology and innovation, while HKPC is dedicated to applied R&D to facilitate Hong Kong’s development in smart city and smart industry. The collaboration will further raise our R&D capability and build up a talent pool for both HKPC and the re-industrialization of Hong Kong.”

Under the Programme, HKPC will nominate staff for the University to approve admission to candidature. The selected candidates will be jointly supervised by the University and HKPC, and will prepare their thesis based on their R&D projects undertaken at HKPC. Research areas include advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0, 3D printing, information security, electric vehicles and their accessories. Those who pass the final assessments will be conferred the PhD degree from the University.
