HKPC: Cyber Threat Intelligence Critical to Local Enterprises

In addition to business intelligence, local enterprises and organizations should pay attention to cyber threat intelligence in order to protect themselves from worsening cyber attacks, said Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), at the opening of the “Information Security Summit 2017” today (15 August 2017).

Jointly organized by HKPC and 10 other information security bodies, the event was opened by Mr Nicholas Yang, Secretary for Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR Government, and Mr Stephen Wong, Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data. They were accompanied by Mr Lin; Mr Allen Yeung, Government Chief Information Officer; Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC; and Mr Dale Johnstone, Chairman of the Summit’s organizing committee.

Mr Lin said, “Businesses and organizations need to have more information available at their fingertips in the initial stage of an attack. This is where cyber threat intelligence comes into the picture. If we have better and more knowledge on what is happening in other parts of the world, or the attacks that our industrial peers are facing, we can react faster to mitigate the risk of an emerging cyber attack.”

To keep Hong Kong general public and businesses alert on new emerging cyber threats, apart from the Summit, HKPC through its Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT) will shortly launch a new campaign to fight ransomware, focusing on the dissemination of intelligence of global trends and insights about ransomware, etc.

Addressing the theme of “Effective Use of Analytics and Threat Intelligence to Secure Organizations” this year, the two-day Summit features sharing by international cyber security experts on the contemporary development of cyber attacks and latest cyber defense methodologies and solutions.
