HKPC and Pro-Technic introduce Multi Jet Fusion 3D Printing Technology" - Breakthrough in 3D printing - Tenfold quicker at 1/10 cost

3D printing is a core technology for the development of smart industry and "Industry 4.0", and the demands for high-speed, low-cost technologies are on the rise. To help local manufacturers tackle problems in prototype design and production, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) recently collaborated with Pro-Technic Machinery Ltd (Pro-Technic) to introduce the first-of-its-kind Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) 3D printing system.

The collaboration agreement was signed on 3 November 2017 by Mr Gordon Lo, Acting Executive Director of HKPC and Mr Robert Lai, Managing Director of Pro-Technic.

Mr Gordon Lo said, "With increasing market demand for customized parts, many developed countries have allocated substantial investments in R&D on 3D printing. A breakthrough in 3D printing, the MJF technology can directly 3D print high strength and high thermoplastics nylon products. In addition to the enhanced mechanical strength, the material cost can also be reduced to one-tenth compared to using other plastic materials, while the printing speed is tenfold quicker than other plastic 3D printers."

Under the collaboration, HKPC and Pro-Technic will jointly develop MJF-specific novel 3D printing materials and organize technical seminars to promote this innovative technology to the industry and the general public.

HKPC is a pioneer in introducing 3D printing to Hong Kong. Currently, HKPC is undergoing the R&D of "Hybrid Laser Energy Deposition and Milling" technology with an aim to produce large-size metal parts with 3D printing. On the other hand, the "Metal Powder Supersonic Gas Atomization" system, to be launched shortly, is expected to significantly reduce the costs of metal 3D printing and further promote technology adoption.
