New HKPC Academy Launches Corporate Academy Consultancy Services for Businesses to Achieve Systematic Talent Development

To support Hong Kong’s development in smart city and smart industry and help businesses grasp the opportunities brought by the Belt and Road initiative, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Development and re-industrialization, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has upgraded its Productivity Training Institute to “HKPC Academy” and offer the city’s only corporate academy consultancy services for businesses to set up their own academies to achieve systematic and sustainable talent development in order to address new challenges arising from technology and market transformation.

Mr Joshua Law, Secretary for the Civil Service, was the guest-of-honour at the launching ceremony today (23 January 2018). He was accompanied by Mr Patrick Wong, Deputy Chairman of HKPC; Mr Cheuk Wing-hing, Permanent Secretary for Information and Technology; Ms Annie Choi, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, and Mr Mohamed D. Butt, Executive Director of HKPC.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr Wong said, “HKPC has been offering talent development service for over 50 years. One of the major focus of HKPC Academy is to assist businesses to upgrade their HR training activities to corporate academies and provide a continuous learning and clear career development pathway for those in the organizations with accreditation from the qualifications framework.”

Over the past two years, many organizations have successfully launched their own academies with the help of HKPC. Through this initiative, they could establish a talent pool and retain talents, promote branding, build a professional public image, attract more talents to join the trades through the public courses of the academies, and facilitate continuous human capital and organizational development.

Mr Wong said, “The opportunities brought by the Belt and Road initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Development, and the promotion of re-industrialization in Hong Kong demands lots of talents of diversified skills. HKPC supports the Chief Executive’s proposal in her Policy Address to establish a new civil service college, and believes its creation will enable the extension of the corporate academy culture to local public organizations and businesses, build a firm foundation for the local talent pool and help embrace new development opportunities in the future for Hong Kong.”

As an opening event, a forum on the trend and development of corporate academies was held today where Mr David Leung, Dean of MTR Academy; Mrs Vivian Cheung, President of Hong Kong International Aviation Academy; Mr Paul Poon, Vice Chancellor of CLP Power Academy; and Mr James To, Principal of Towngas Engineering Academy joined Dr Victor Ng, Senior Manager of HKPC and head of HKPC Academy, to explore the present challenges and future direction of corporate manpower development and training in Hong Kong.
