(Hong Kong, 15 January, 2019) Over 150 representatives from Hong Kong startups and SMEs attended the "Smart City Symposium – Business Linkage" at the Hong Kong Science Park today to keep abreast of the latest smart city development best practices and seek partnership opportunities with leading international smart solution providers.
Initiated by Smart City Consortium (SCC) and the United States (U.S.) Commercial Service of the U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong and Macau, with support from the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), the Symposium was the first of its kind held between Hong Kong and the U.S.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Dr Bernard Chan, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government; Mr Thomas Hodges, Acting U.S. Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau; and Dr Winnie Tang, Founder and Honorary President of SCC.
At the Symposium, world-class technology and smart city solution providers shared insights, case studies, and best practices in smart city development from projects they have led in Hong Kong and other cities. The event also explored how Hong Kong startups and SMEs could collaborate with leading international companies on smart city initiatives.
The event was a realisation of the Statement of Intent signed in September last year between the U.S. Commercial Service and HKPC. It aims at promoting cross border smart partnerships between Hong Kong and the U.S.
Connected City Alliance (CCA), InvestHK and NexChange are also supporting organisations of the event. Other officiating guests at the ceremony included Mr Mohamed D. Butt, Executive Director of HKPC; Ir Peter Yeung, Head of Electronics & ICT Clusters, Smart City Platform of HKSTP; Mr Charles Ng, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion of InvestHK; Ir Dr Tsang Kim-Fung, Convenor of CCA; and Mr Andrew Work, Managing Director, Head of Asia and Europe, Media Division of NexChange.
