HKPC Welcomes Appointment of New Chairman

(Hong Kong, 24 June 2022) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) welcomes the announcement made today (24 June) by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government regarding the new Council Chairman of HKPC.

Mr Sunny TAN will succeed Mr Willy LIN as the Chairman of HKPC for a period of 2 years with effect from 6 August, 2022. Mr TAN is no stranger to HKPC. He has been a member of the Council since 2016 and chaired the Staffing Committee in 2017-2021, during which he oversaw the revamp of HKPC’s human resources policies and practices to catch up with the times.

Mr Mohamed BUTT, Executive Director of HKPC, said, “We are delighted to welcome Mr Sunny TAN as our new Chairman. With a solid track record of public service, he was elected to the Legislative Council (LegCo) under the textiles and garment functional constituency in 2021, and is currently Vice Chairman of the LegCo Panel on Commerce and Industry. He is also the Executive Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and the Executive Vice President of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Textiles Limited. His strong industry connection and outstanding achievements are certainly advantageous for HKPC to tie in with the Government’s masterplan in driving innovation and technology (I&T) development and fully support the National 14th Five-Year Plan in promoting Hong Kong as an international I&T hub. Such virtues are also expected to help HKPC to foster reindustrialisation in Hong Kong and enhance collaboration among the government, industry, academic and research sectors through technology, R&D, talent and capital for proactive integration into national development and facilitating enterprises in leveraging innovative technologies to drive the new economy. We look forward to working with Mr TAN to further excel our profound strength in R&D and experiences in serving the industry. Through promoting intelligent manufacturing with Industry 4.0 technologies, commercialisation of R&D projects and building more intelligent production lines for the industry, we will be in a strong position to re-invigorate the ‘Made in Hong Kong’ label and also, to expand the local R&D talent pool."

HKPC would like to express its sincere gratitude to Mr Willy LIN for his exceptional leadership in the past 6 years. Mr LIN was an HKPC Council member from 2003 to 2008 and was appointed as the HKPC Chairman in 2016. Under his exemplary leadership, the services of HKPC have been widely recognised by the industry, Government, I&T community and the general public. His unique insights and valuable advice have enabled HKPC to facilitate the HKSAR Government’s policies on technological and industrial development. He is also enthused about optimising corporate governance, leading the HKPC Council to win the “Directors of the Year Awards 2021” and “Special Recognition of Excellence in Board Diversity" presented by The Hong Kong Institute of Directors. His contribution to both the I&T promotion in Hong Kong and the development of HKPC is truly immense. We wish Mr LIN every happiness in his new journey after his term at HKPC.
