HKPC Garners a Record-Breaking of 98 Awards and Recognitions in 2022 R&D Achievements Repeatedly Recognised by Internationally Renowned Authorities Join Hands with Hong Kong Enterprises to Shine Globally with Intelligent Manufacturing

(Hong Kong, 3 January 2023) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today announced the result of its awards achievements for 2022. HKPC is pleased to announce a record-breaking of 98 awards and recognitions for the year. Among them, 58 were Mainland and international awards, which doubled the number compared with last year, including some of the famous international scientific and innovation awards. This is a testament of HKPC moving with the times, enabling R&D achievements to expand beyond Hong Kong. For the first time, several R&D technologies of HKPC have attained the General Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China’s specifications for scientific and technological achievements evaluation1. The technologies developed in the research projects have been verified by Mainland experts to have met the top advanced level both in the Mainland or international standard, making HKPC at the forefront of innovation and technology (I&T). The ability to commercialise applications and technologies will strive to fully realise Hong Kong's I&T potential as a global I&T hub, allowing the world to see the technology achievements of Hong Kong.

HKPC is determined to promote “new industrialisation” and productivity excellence through relentless drive of world-class advanced technologies and innovative service offerings to support Hong Kong enterprises. HKPC and its R&D projects in collaboration with clients garnered both local and international awards. Some of the prestigious awards include: “2022 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions”2, “R&D 100 Awards”3 and “TechConnect 2022 Innovation Awards”4. HKPC has always been committed to collaborating with clients, assisting the upgrading and transformation of both local industries and enterprises in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area (GBA), and even internationally. It is notable that nearly 80% of the award-winning projects of HKPC have already been applied in real industrial environments to deliver concrete support to target beneficiaries. Moreover, awards attained together with clients have gone up from 29 last year to 56 this year which is very encouraging. Some R&D projects have been successfully promoted to overseas applications, which not only fully reflect the practical technology and innovative capabilities of HKPC, but also enhance the productivity and efficiency of enterprises in Hong Kong and other regions, which truly make the “Made in Hong Kong” brand shine.

Talent is the key to I&T development. HKPC has been fully supporting the HKSAR government, and the Report of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party that puts nurturing, attracting and retaining talent as its top priority in policy planning, striving to lure more outstanding talent to Hong Kong, and create high-quality career opportunities for young people, in order to give new impetus to R&D development in GBA. HKPC’s awards and recognitions in the fields of human resources management and corporate governance have affirmed the efforts of the HKPC team. HKPC has attained 7 corporate governance-related accolades and 23 accolades in human resources management this year. HKPC is one of the most awarded research institutions of such honours in Hong Kong. In addition to a variety of local, GBA and Asia awards presented by CTgoodjobs, Human Resources Online and JobMarket, HKPC is also named one of the “Best Companies to Work for in Asia” by HR Asia and has received the “Authorized Employer” accreditation from the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. These awards and accreditation fully acknowledge HKPC’s contributions to employee-caring initiatives and talent development practices ; and its promotion of TechEd development and on-the-job training, thus nurturing the future new generations of “InnoTalent” in Hong Kong.

Mr Mohamed BUTT, Executive Director of HKPC, said, “2022 was a fruitful year for HKPC, and I am delighted that many research projects jointly collaborated by HKPC and clients have been affirmed by world authoritative experts and R&D institutions, and successfully won a total of nearly 100 awards and recognitions. The brilliant results are obvious to all. Most of the R&D projects have been applied in real life, enabling all sectors of the community to witness the impact of technology on industry and life, dabbling in various areas of people’s daily life, and using technology to improve the quality of living of the citizens! HKPC hopes that through advanced technology, FutureSkills training and government funding scheme services, enterprises can realise their dreams. Once again, thanks to our clients and employees for their continuous trust and support to HKPC, we can move forward and make steady progress in realising the development of Hong Kong as an international I&T hub and a smart city under the National “14th Five-Year Plan”. Looking forward, HKPC will continue to join hands with all walks of life, actively integrate into the overall national development of the country, as well as enhance the competitive edge of Hong Kong and the Mainland with technology.”

These distinguished honours received by HKPC this year reflected the affirmation and praise of the industry for HKPC’s continuous pursuit of excellence and world-leading performance in the fields of promoting Hong Kong enterprises to improve their productivity and transformation of R&D achievements, development strategies, and talent cultivation. In the coming year, HKPC will continue to support the four broad development directions and eight major strategies envisioned in the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint of the HKSAR Government and lead Hong Kong’s transformation into an international I&T hub and a smart city, in realising “new industrialisation”, enlarging the I&T talent pool, and leveraging its own strengths as an international city for better integration into the overall national development and injection of new momentum.
