Breakthrough in Traditional Teaching & Learning! HKPC Academy Launches Innovative 360VR Game "TecHunt" Bringing Immersive TechEd Experience to Schools

(Hong Kong, 21 August 2024) In alignment with the HKSAR Government's drive to promote STEAM education in primary and secondary schools, the HKPC Academy has launched "TecHunt", a groundbreaking virtual reality (VR) game. This innovative game provides upper primary and junior secondary students with an immersive experience of HKPC's cutting-edge technology theme halls. Through this interactive platform, students can stay abreast of the latest advancements in manufacturing technologies and the evolving landscape of new productive forces, as well as deepen their STEAM knowledge and capabilities. Moreover, "TecHunt" aims to nurture a new generation of innovation and technology (I&T) talent, ultimately facilitating Hong Kong to become an international I&T centre.

"TecHunt" is a virtual treasure hunt game that allows students to explore 360VR virtual laboratories or exhibition halls using their smartphones or tablets. The objective of the game is to search for golden coins. Along the way, participants can learn about the scientific principles and technological applications behind the exhibits through short videos or descriptions. When participants successfully answer questions, they will be rewarded with golden coins, the player with the highest final score will be the winner. The game introduces several new exhibition halls of HKPC, including the Future Manufacturing Hall, AI Applications Hall, Future Food Tech Lab, Smart Wearables, Watch & Clock Technology Centre, as well as Hong Kong Joint Research Lab for Applications of Intelligent Automation Technology. HKPC Academy hopes that students understand how technology can improve their lives and drive the development of smart city through engaging with these virtual games, ultimately stimulating their interest and passion for I&T.

Ms Karen FUNG, Chief Marketing Officer and General Manager, InnoPrenuer and FutureSkills of HKPC, said, "The HKPC Academy has been working closely with various sectors to promote TechEd in Hong Kong and unleash the I&T potential of young people. 'TecHunt' breaks away from the traditional learning model and provides students with an immersive virtual experience through gamification, greatly raising their learning interest and engagement. The game is structured in a level-based format, encouraging students to actively look for clues and solve problems, strengthening their learning motivation and problem-solving skills. By integrating games and TechEd, the Academy hopes to cultivate students' innovative thinking and enhance their scientific literacy. Moving forward, the Academy will continue to organise various workshops, TechEd events and competitions, providing more opportunities for local students and parents to learn about I&T and build a comprehensive ecosystem for TechEd."

HKPC Academy cordially invites all primary and secondary schools, as well as youth organisations, to participate in the "TecHunt" game and the "TechEd Experience Camp". Interested organisations may visit InnoSpace website for more details or WhatsApp 6759 6140 and email innospace@hkpc.org for inquiries.
