Green Hall

Green Hall

Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC)’s Green Hall showcases the latest green technologies and innovative solutions, thereby promoting the wide application of relevant technologies in the industry and sustainable development, so as to boost the development of Hong Kong into a world-class smart and green city, while fully supporting the HKSAR Government’s goal in accomplishing low-carbon transformation of Hong Kong economy, realising the vision of "Zero-carbon Emissions‧Liveable City‧Sustainable Development" and achieving carbon neutrality in Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050.

Located on LG1/F of the HKPC Building, Green Hall hosts a range of innovative GreenTech research and development (R&D) and applications by HKPC, its Automotive Platforms and Application Systems R&D Centre (APAS), numerous partners and exhibitors. Among the GreenTech on display are the Food TranSmarter, Smokeless Joss Paper, degradable food packaging and masks, intelligent foam removal robot, electric vehicles (EV) and EV charging technologies, etc. Each closely connected to everyday life, the exhibits are the true reflection of how innovation and technology are helping people move towards carbon neutrality, in the areas of clothing, food, housing and transportation.

Visitors will have an inspiring tour and a deeper understanding about how a GreenTech comes into being, from “ideation” to “innovation”, from “problems” to “green solutions”. Industries and the public are cordially invited to visit Green Hall to explore and experience GreenTech’s unlimited potentials, as well as exchange insights on the latest GreenTech trends.

It takes the concerted efforts of all citizens in order for Hong Kong to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. HKPC has established the goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and, through this Green Hall, HKPC hopes to connect and collaborate with all industries to share and promote the best practices in GreenTech.

Exhibits Highlights

Food TranSmarter

Food TranSmarter

  • The first-ever system in Hong Kong to automatically liquefy food waste into slurry
  • Extract 97% of organic matters into slurry at source without tedious food waste separation
  • A simple, clean and hygienic solution for collecting and transporting food waste
  • Won two Grand Awards at the first-ever City I&T Grand Challenge in 2021, and was awarded the 2021-22 Hong Kong Awards for Industries: Equipment and Machinery Design Award

Smokeless Joss Paper

Smokeless Joss Paper(Left: Traditional Joss Paper)
(Right: Smokeless Joss Paper)

  • Burning joss paper is a unique worship activity in Chinese culture. However, it incurs serious air pollution that affects health and environment
  • “Smokeless Joss Paper” is prepared by the addition of inorganic fillers into joss paper, that can significantly reduce the smoke content and particulates matter emitted during combustion
  • Experimental results proved that "Smokeless Joss Paper” can:
    • Significantly emit less smoke during combustion
    • Reduce >30% particulates in air filtration test
    • Lower at least 30% CO2 emission
    • Release 20% less heat energy
    • Burn 20% faster
  • Major contributions to environment:
    • Reduce air pollution during combustion
    • Reduce CO2 and particulate emission

Degradable Mask

Degradable Mask

  • Disposable masks become necessities during the pandemic, creating a huge amount of trash at the same time
  • Degradable mask aims to solve such environmental pollution issue
  • Degradable nonwoven fabric made with degradable synthetic fibre masterbatch still maintains the advantages of high wear resistance and low moisture absorption
  • Completely green production:
    • Degradable synthetic fibre masterbatch is produced from scrap metals and environmentally-friendly materials
    • Degradable nonwoven fabric can be produced using existing manufacturing equipment and degradable synthetic fibre masterbatch, with only 3-5% increase in total production cost
  • HKPC provides testing services for degradable nonwoven fabric, ensuring the quality of the degradable masks

Swappable Battery Low Platform Electric Minibus & Truck

Swappable Battery Low Platform Electric Minibus & Truck

  • Zero roadside emission
  • Fast battery swapping in less than 7 minutes
  • The low floor design is safe and easy for passengers boarding and alighting the minibus
  • Real-time data feedback of passenger counts, seat-belt monitoring and vehicle running data to fleet operation centre
  • Recently converted into a mobile vaccination station to serve the public
