Conference Provides Update on Information Security and IT Service Management

At the Information Security and IT Service Management Conference, opened today (30 August 2006) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, local enterprises were urged to adopt best practices and international management systems to enhance their network security and management standard.

Organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), the two-day Conference comprises over 20 seminars and an exhibition on the latest products and services on information security and information technology (IT) service management. Topics of the seminars include identity management, infrastructure management, governance of IT investments, anti-spam strategies, System Integration (SI) Certification and best practices for the IT sector.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr John Wong, Assistant Government Chief Information Officer (Infrastructure and Security), HKSAR Government, and Mr Edmund Sung, Director (Business Productivity) of HKPC.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Sung said, "Over the past six years, HKPC has been organizing the Information Security Conference to raise public awareness on this important issue. To ensure the smooth and reliable flow of information through computer networks, in addition to adopting information security measures, enterprises should also deploy effective IT service management systems. In this year's Conference, thus, we have invited industry experts to share their insight on this area."

"Through this Conference, we hope to provide local enterprises with the latest update on the best practices in both IT service management and information security to enhance their efficiency and competitiveness," he said.

Highlighting the trend in IT service management, Mr Sung said, "Unlike conventional practices, today's IT service management is workflow and service-oriented, rather than operational-driven. Best practices and international management systems, such as the ISO 27000 information security systems and ISO 20000 IT service management systems are adopted to enhance service quality, customer satisfaction and efficiency."

"For enterprises eyeing on the business opportunities on the Mainland, attainment of the Computer Information System Integration (SI) Qualification Certification is a pre-requisite for market entry," he added.
