HKPC Organizes Diploma Courses in Product Design and Apparel Merchandising

To enhance the capabilities of local professionals in product design and apparel merchandising, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) will organize two training programmes in the coming months.

Diploma in Global Consumer Product Design (Toys & Lifestyle Products), 14 June – 14 December 2006

Product designers involved in toys and lifestyle items will be able to enhance their design capabilities by participating in this practical training programme organized by the Productivity Training Institute of HKPC and the Mode of Design Alliance.

Mr Eric Ching, Principal Consultant (Productivity Training Institute) of HKPC, said, "Innovation and design are key elements for a company to gain a leading edge in today's competitive environment. As local industry evolves from original equipment manufacturing (OEM) to original design manufacturing (ODM) and original brand manufacturing (OBM), enhancing design capabilities has now become a top priority in the business agenda of companies."

Focusing on toys and lifestyle products, the course will cover modern methodologies and techniques in product design, industrial design technology and applications, CAD/CAID design, concept modeling and prototyping, marketing and communications strategies for consumer products, case studies and company visits.

Diploma Course in Apparel Merchandising (21 June – 20 December 2006)

Those who would like to improve their career prospect in the apparel industry should not miss the opportunity to participate in a tailor-made training programme organized by HKPC.

Mr Ching said, "With the implementation of CEPA, China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), as well as the abolition of the textile and clothing quotas since 1 January 2005, Hong Kong's apparel companies are likely to capture more business opportunities and, at the same time, face keener competition. To maintain Hong Kong's position as a leading garment exporter in the world, local professionals must enhance their technical and business knowledge to cater to the changing market situation. This course aims to provide them with comprehensive knowledge on apparel merchandising, preparing them for the new challenge ahead."

Scheduled for 21 June to 20 December 2006, the course will cover fashion design and fabric science, garment costing, quality evaluation, production planning and operation, merchandising, marketing and retailing, sourcing as well as logistic control.

The course is tailor-made for merchandisers and related personnel in the apparel industry. For further information, please contact HKPC's Ms Peggy Fung at (852) 2788 5024, or fax: (852) 2788 5011, or email: peggyfung@hkpc.org.
