Hong Kong Pavilion at China Hi-Tech Fair 2007 Opens Today

The Hong Kong Pavilion, jointly organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the Hong Kong Productivity Council and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council to showcase the technological achievements of Hong Kong, was officially opened today (12 October 2007) at the China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF) 2007 held in the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Highlighting the HKSAR Government's latest initiatives to further promote the development of innovation and technology, Mr Anthony Wong, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, said, "The five Research and Development (R&D) Centres set up by the HKSAR Government in April 2006 have been actively working with their industry partners on various applied R&D projects in their respective technology areas including automotive parts and accessory systems; information and communications technologies; nanotechnology and advanced materials; textiles and clothing, as well as logistics and supply-chain management enabling technologies. To-date, over 50 projects have been funded, including many projects with enormous market potential such as high definition television, automotive electronics, advanced textiles production technologies, radio frequency identification technology and nano materials applications."

"In May this year, the HKSAR Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Government signed a cooperation agreement on 'Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Circle' to strengthen innovation and technology cooperation between the two cities. At this year's CHTF, ITC and the Science, Technology and Information Bureau of the Shenzhen Municipal Government also co-organised a 'Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Circle' Pavilion to introduce the initiative," he added.

At the Hong Kong Pavilion, the five R&D Centres and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine showcased their R&D expertise and services, offering opportunities for collaboration with Mainland and overseas counterparts.

Exhibits by Hong Kong's high-technology companies at the Hong Kong Pavilion included state-of-the-art medical and healthcare devices, automotive parts and accessory systems, contactless smart card-based prepaid and loyalty system, as well as transport and logistics management solutions.

The CHTF is a state-level, international event for the high technology sector held annually in Shenzhen. Hong Kong has participated in the CHTF since its inception in 1999. The CHTF 2007 is open to the public until 17 October 2007. The Hong Kong Pavilion and the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Circle Pavilion are located at Exhibition Hall No.8 of the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre.
