Ward off Cyber Attacks with Good Practices

Companies risked losing millions to cyber attacks by not applying good practices and international standards in data security, according to experts addressing the "Information Security Summit 2007" jointly hosted by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and seven information security bodies today (5 December 2007).

Speaking at the Summit's opening ceremony, Mr Wilson Fung, Executive Director of HKPC, said, "Through the Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre, HKPC has been active over the years in helping companies and organizations, especially those with limited resources, in the implementation of internationally recognized standards. Most significantly, we managed to combine the procedures for ISO 9001 in the traditional quality management system and ISO 27001 in the information management system and successfully helped companies to attain both standards simultaneously"

Other officiating guests at the opening ceremony included Mr Howard Dickson, Chief Government Information Officer of the HKSAR Government, and Mr Dale Johnstone, Chairman of the Summit's organizing committee. A highlight of the Summit was the keynote address on cybersecurity for the Beijing Olympic Games by Dr Du Yuejin, Deputy Chief Technical Officer of the National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China. Other speakers included industry experts from Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Mainland and the United States.
