Guidebook Offers Roadmap on Smart Domestic Sales in China

To assist Hong Kong SMEs to make headway in tapping the blossoming domestic market in China, the Hong Kong Association of International Co-operation of Small & Medium Enterprises (ISME) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) jointly published “The Practical Guidebook for Smart Domestic Sales in China” to provide enterprises with a useful reference. The publication was launched today (24 November 2010) at an experience sharing seminar officiated by Ms Maria Kwan, Director-General of Trade and Industry of the HKSAR Government.

Mr Henry Chan, Chairman of ISME, said, “Featuring the case studies of six major industries, including watch and clock, jewellery, domestic appliances, clothing and footwear, cosmetics and food processing, the Guidebook outlines the success factors and management strategies in developing the market in Guangdong province. As the first tool book of its kind for these sectors, the Guidebook has laid down a roadmap for SMEs in opening the domestic market.”

Mr Clement Chen, Chairman of HKPC, said the Council would strengthen its support for local SMEs in developing the domestic market. He said, “The 12th Five- Year Plan proposals recently announced by the Central Government has emphasized boosting domestic demand as an economic driver. However, for many small to medium size OEMs, who lack their own brands, would have no clues on how to kickstart their domestic sales business.”

“Developing the domestic market means more than market research and building a sales network. Businesses need to improve their capabilities in innovation and research and development, design, intellectual property management, product testing, management and talent training as well. As such, HKPC will launch a comprehensive range of related support services for SMEs, putting them on the road to success.”

The Guidebook is part of a programme funded by the SME Development Fund of the Trade and Industry Department to support local SMEs in entering the Mainland domestic market. The programme also included a SME survey and experience sharing seminars in Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

The Guidebook is free of charge. To get the Guidebook, please contact Mr Taco Lau of HKPC at tel. (852) 2788 5660 or email: tacolau@hkpc.org.
