Creative Works Showcase Opens to Inspire Cross Industry Collaboration

Over 60 Hong Kong character and graphic creators are displaying the best of their works for potential business partnerships at the Cross Industry Matching Showcase which opens today (10 March 2011) at the InnoCentre in Kowloon Tong. The event is jointly organized by the Innovative Entrepreneur Association (IEA) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC).

Speaking at the opening of the three-day Showcase, Dr Raymond CHOY, President of IEA, said, “Among the six industries where Hong Kong enjoys clear advantages, the creative industries take the lead the value added exceeding HK$ 60 billion each year, contributing to 4% of Hong Kong’s GDP. Through this Showcase we aim to provide a platform for business synergies between local character and graphic creators and entrepreneurs to achieve win-win for all.”

The Showcase is funded by the CreateSmart Initiative of Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the HKSAR Government. Mr Jerry LIU, Head of CreateHK, said, “CreateHK has been supporting creative industries to expand their local market size. Our ‘Design-Business Collaboration Scheme’ is well-received by the local design community. Today’s Showcase provides another platform to foster the demand for various creative sectors.  I encourage the creative industries and SMEs to make use of this platform to explore mutual cooperation and add value to our prospering creative economy in the long run.”

Mr Clement CHEN, Chairman of HKPC, said, “HKPC has been working closely with local companies to upgrade and transform their business in areas such as brand building and product innovation for expansion to the Mainland domestic market. With our strong network in both the creative and the business communities, HKPC is well positioned to support them in building platform for business collaboration.”

Apart from displays of local creative works, the Showcase also comprises exchange forums on cross industry collaboration and latest industry trends in online games, animations and movies, and on-site consultation service on intellectual property management.

The Showcase is a highlight of a project by IEA and HKPC under the theme of “Showcasing Creative Works to Inspire Cross Industry Matching in Commercial Applications”. The project also includes the publication of a Cross Industry Mix-and-Match Roadmap to share the success experience in such collaboration.
