“The 1st Hong Kong International Mobile Film Awards” Presentation Ceremony - A Global Platform for Cultural Exchange Encourages Mobile Films Development

 

(Hong Kong, 24 March 2011) To recognize the outstanding efforts and creativity of local and overseas mobile filmmakers, “The 1st Hong Kong International Mobile Film Awards” Presentation Ceremony” (HKIMFA) was held on yesterday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Awards was jointly organized by Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) and Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), and sponsored by the CreateSmart Initiative of Create Hong Kong of the HKSAR Government.

Leveraging on the success of the Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival (HKMFF), WTIA and HKPC invited nine international mobile film festival partners to take part in the inaugural HKIMFA. They include Golden Flower Awards from the Mainland, Vivo Arte.Mov from Brazil, interfilm Berlin from Germany, Portable Film Festival from Australia, France Mobile Film Festival from France, Shoot It from Greece, Seoul International Extreme Short Image & Film Festival from Korea, Morocco Mobile Film Festival from Morocco, and Movil Film Festival from Spain. Each partner festival and HKMFF nominated their best mobile films to compete for a total of 8 awards, including “The Grand Award”, “Best Drama” (Gold/ Silver/ Bronze), “Best Animation” (Gold/ Silver/ Bronze), and “Most Favourite Mobile Film Award”.

Mr. Gregory So Kam-leung, JP, Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development was the guest of honour at the ceremony and presented awards to the winners.

Mr. Ken Fong, Chairman of WTIA, said, “In order to provide a global platform for mobile filmmakers to present their works to an international audience, we organized the HKIMFA with nine international mobile film partners. We hope to provide a useful platform for mobile filmmakers to exchange technical and creative ideas, and arouse public awareness and interest about the use of mobile devices as a medium to create their own films.”

Mr Fong said, “As mobile films are gaining public popularity, we strongly encourage mobile film lovers to explore the fun and uniqueness of this emerging entertainment, especially for professionals and students in related fields. Through HKIMFA, we are privileged to witness first hand the techniques of mobile film makers from around the world and learn from the various styles of production in different cultures.”

Other officiating guests at the ceremony included Mrs. Agnes Mak, MH, JP, Executive Director of HKPC; film directors Mr. Kenneth Bi and Mr. Clement Cheng.
