HKPC Urges Businesses to Tap Software Testing Opportunities

Hong Kong companies are urged to seize new business opportunities in software testing locally and overseas, said Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC).

Speaking at the opening of the “Hong Kong Software Quality Assurance (HKSQA) Conference 2011”, organized by HKPC, today (27 April 2011), Mrs Mak, said: “Banking on the long history of software development and the maturity of the industry, HKPC has been advocating the establishment of a software testing industry. There exists great potential for Hong Kong to capitalize its advantages in software quality and testing, and provide related services to local and overseas businesses.”

On HKPC’s initiatives in support of the industry, Mrs Mak said: “HKPC plans to conduct a comprehensive study on the information and communication technologies testing environment, and advise on the strategies to enhance the software testing industry in Hong Kong.”

Under the theme of “Software Testing Challenges”, this Conference is part of HKPC’s initiatives to promote awareness of software quality assurance in Hong Kong since 1990s. Other programmes include software quality qualifications and training, the adoption of quality improvement schemes, and the establishment of best practices for the local IT industry.

Today’s Conference featured a keynote presentation by Mr Tom Ticknor, Chief Operating Officer of the US-based QAI Global Institute, on “Top Ten Challenges in Software Testing”, and an audience survey to identify the major software testing challenges for Hong Kong organizations. Other officiating guest at the opening of the Conference included Mr Victor Lam, Deputy Government Chief Information Officer of the HKSAR Government.
