The 2nd Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program Kicks off Today

To raise awareness of corporate citizenship among local enterprises and assist them in adopting it as their business strategies, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today (30 June 2011) launched the 2nd Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program together with the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE), with sponsorship from Bank of China (Hong Kong) for two consecutive years.

Mr Matthew Cheung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the HKSAR Government, officiated at the launching ceremony, accompanied by Mr Clement Chen, Chairman of HKPC; Mr Peter Ho, Member of CPCE; and Mr Alex Lee, Chief Operating Officer of Bank of China (Hong Kong).

Speaking at the launch, Mr Chen said, “The inaugural event last year successfully created a platform for businesses to share their best practices in corporate social responsibility (CSR). This year, the Program will keep up the momentum with enhanced activities to promote a wider CSR adoption.”

Apart from the ‘Hong Kong Outstanding Corporate Citizen Award’ which recognizes the outstanding CSR achievements of organizations from four different categories, namely Service Industry, Manufacturing Industry, SMEs and Corporate Volunteer Team, the Program this year also includes seminars and workshops. Students are also encouraged to join the ‘Best Corporate Citizenship Proposal Competition’ and the ‘Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Poster Competition’.

“HKPC has stepped up its efforts to promote adoption of CSR practices to help business enhance their competitiveness. Apart from this Program, other initiatives include the launch of a new phase of the CSRCARE program to help companies formulate their CSR blueprints; and co-founding Hong Kong Council of Social Service’s CSR Institute,” Mr Chen added.

To share the experience of the successful implementation of CSR initiatives, HKPC organized a seminar featuring business and non-profit-making organization representatives after the ceremony.
