"The 2nd Hong Kong International Mobile Film Awards" Presentation Ceremony - Converging the Best in International Creativity Promoting Local Film Talent to the World

Riding on the success of the inaugural “Hong Kong International Mobile Film Awards” (HKIMFA) last year, the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) and Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) launched the 2nd HKIMFA this year, again with the funding support of the CreateSmart Initiative of Create Hong Kong of the HKSAR Government. The Awards Presentation Ceremony was held today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Aiming to recognize the outstanding efforts and creativity of local and overseas mobile filmmakers, and facilitate international cultural exchange, the Awards this year invited 10 international mobile film festival partners to take part. They include Golden Flower Awards from Mainland China, Kavalan International Short Film Festival from Taiwan, SHORTSNONSTOP from Canada, France Mobile Film Festival, Portable Film Festival from Australia, Seoul International Extreme Short Image & Film Festival from Korea, Singapore Short Film Awards, Vivo Arte.Mov from Brazil, Movil Film Festival from Spain and SHOOT IT from Greece. Each partner festival and the Hong Kong representative - Hong Kong Mobile Film Festival, nominated their best mobile films to compete for “The Grand Award”, and awards in the “Best Drama”, “Best Animation”, and “Best Documentary” categories.

Ms Elizabeth Tse, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology) of the HKSAR Government, was the guest-of-honour at the ceremony and presented awards to the winners.

Mr. To Cheung, Chairman of WTIA, said, “With the co-operation and support of 10 international mobile film partners, the 2nd HKIMFA enables mobile film makers from different parts of the world to bring forth their culture for sharing with others, to embrace new ideas to enrich their creative inspiration and revolutionize their thinking. Apart from facilitating the birth of more creative ideas and elements, the event also helps to expand international network and promote cultural exchange, furthering the development of international mobile films.”

Mr. Cheung said, “Rapid technology advancements have made film production and sharing easier. People from different walks of life are becoming more engaged in making films to express their thoughts and ideas. As such, mobile film production is expected to become one of the most important communication tools in society and the world. Through HKIMFA, we hope to help people from different places to keep abreast of the latest development of international mobile films, and integrate different creative and production styles in order to generate more creative sparks and produce more outstanding mobile films.”

Other officiating guests at the ceremony included Mrs. Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC; veteran film and TV maker Mr. Tsui Siu-Ming and independent film director Mr. Chan Wing-Chiu.
